Having dominated the top end of the professional music entertainment industry over the last couple of decades, with what is currently 60% of the market, Pioneer is selling it’s music equipment to KKR for ¥59 billion (approximately £34 million) the deal will involve the sale of their CDJ decks and DJM mixers, which have set the standard for the top end club environment, which yields a profit margin of nearly 20%.
KKR will market the equipment under Pioneer DJ, so the iconic brand name won’t be lost from the entertainment industry, whilst Pioneer turn their attention toward their automotive electronics business which they believe has more potential for growth without the significantly large cash investment that would be needed to further the growth of the DJ unit.
